Fed: Howard backs Tucker in fed seat of Ryan

CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today backed former Queensland Liberal
Party president Bob Tucker's candidacy for the federal seat of Ryan, after he won a messy
preselection battle.

A by-election is on the cards in the Queensland seat with the expected resignation
of former Defence Minister John Moore.

Mr Tucker won last night's preselection ballot after one of his main opponents, Chinese-Australian
lawyer Michael Johnson, was forced to pull out because he held dual British-Australian
nationalities.
