Vic: Nightclub assault victim unlikely to recover, court told
A crowd controller charged with assaulting a man near a Melbourne nightclub last week
has been refused bail.
The decision to remand 21-year-old NATAN KAPLAN in custody comes as the alleged victim's
family decide whether or not to turn off the 32-year-old's life support machine.
KAPLAN appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court today after turning himself in to police
yesterday afternoon.
He's been charged with assaulting the man near the Mint Bar and Nightclub in suburban
Brighton early last Friday.
The court was today told KAPLAN struck him once in the face and he fell backwards,
striking his head on the footpath.
Police told the court the family of the 32-year-old are meeting today with Alfred hospital
staff to decide whether to remove him from life support and allow him to die.
Bail was opposed for KAPLAN and Magistrate PETER COUZENS remanded him in custody until
June the 1st.
